Goa Blues
Main Image
Every piece at Goa Blues is designed for the woman who dresses like she means it — whether she's at a wedding in Jaipur or a sunrise breakfast in Spain. Here, the wardrobe more than just style, they became about escape. Emotion. Possibility.

About the Brand

What is the name of your brand and what does it stand for?

Goa Blues is a luxury destination wear label inspired by the art of dressing for escape. It’s a brand that blends statement resortwear and destination wedding dressing with the ease of travel, the joy of emotion-led clothing, and a deeply personal aesthetic. Goa Blues stands for slow luxury, freedom of style, and clothes that move with you — and stay with you.

Founding Story

When was it founded, and what inspired its beginning?

Founded in 2023 by a mother-daughter duo, the idea was born from years of designing, styling, and travelling — and not finding pieces that felt elevated, expressive, and wearable across destinations and occasions. We wanted to create a brand that dressed women not just for weddings or getaways, but for memories.

Indian Identity

What makes your brand uniquely Indian?

Our commitment to sourcing and using Indian craft techniques — from threadwork to dyeing — is core to us. We reject mass production and fast fashion, instead working with artisans and producing in small batches. Each piece is made-to-order or limited-run, designed to be worn over and over again. Goa Blues honours Indian craftsmanship while reinterpreting it with a globally informed design lens.

The Founders

Who are the founders?

Goa Blues is founded by Kimaya and Shabnam — a mother-daughter team with a shared brain and very distinct personal styles. Together, they bring the brand its balance: old-school quality and craftsmanship meets a fresh, editorial sense of modern travel dressing.

What is your background?

Kimaya comes from a background in tech, film, and consulting — but is deeply rooted in creativity, fashion, and visual culture. A lifelong lover of design and art, she’s passionate about discovering new ways to wear things and sourcing treasures from her travels.

Shabnam launched her first label at 18, which evolved into Rumours — one of the most stylish boutiques in Mumbai in its time. She then built an export house that ran for 30 years, with pieces sold at Harvey Nichols, Selfridges, Joseph, Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue and more.

What inspired you to start this brand?

A shared love of travel, storytelling, and fashion that makes you feel something. We wanted to build a brand that blends our love for the journey — whether that’s a flight to Italy or a morning in our own city — with the feeling of being well-dressed, but never overdone.

Do you have any personal connection to the craft, textile, or region your brand represents?

Yes. While we come from different professional backgrounds, our connection to craft has grown through years of sourcing, designing, and working with karigars across India. We’ve learned to blend heritage techniques from various regions with our international inspirations — creating pieces that feel both rooted and forward-thinking.

The Team & People Behind the Brand

Can you tell us about the team behind your label?

We are a lean, founder-led, mother-daughter team. Kimaya leads creative direction, branding, storytelling, and customer experience, while Shabnam drives production, sampling, tailoring, and operations. Our trusted production team in Mumbai includes master tailors, embroiderers, and surface finishers who’ve worked with us for years.

Do you work with local artisans, karigars, or craft communities?

Yes — our work is entirely India-based. We work with local karigars in Mumbai and Gujarat for embroidery, hand-finishing, tailoring, and detailing.

Are there any people or partnerships you’d like to credit or highlight?

We’re proud to be a women-led, independent label where each person on the team — from pattern master to packer — plays an equal role in bringing the Goa Blues vision to life.

Craftsmanship & Textiles

What kinds of textiles, weaving, dyeing, or embroidery techniques does your brand use?

We use soft cottons, crepes, gauzes and blends — with hand embroidery, fringe work, lightweight zardozi, custom dyeing, and fluid silhouettes that move. All our materials are sourced in India.

Is there a story behind the craft you work with?

Our embroidery techniques are inspired by artisanal Indian craft — but always reinterpreted for a modern, wearable silhouette. Whether it’s a wedding lehenga or a cotton co-ord, our focus is always on texture and lightness, not heaviness or flash.

Are the materials locally sourced or organic/natural?

Yes, all fabrics and materials are sourced within India from trusted vendors. We work with breathable, natural or low-impact fabrics as much as possible.

Values & Practices

How do sustainability, slow fashion, or ethical practices show up in your brand?

Everything we make is small-batch or made-to-order. We don’t overproduce, we repurpose trims, and we work directly with our tailors and artisans — ensuring transparency, dignity, and control at every stage.

How do you approach production — made-to-order, small-batch, zero waste, etc.?

Our collections are limited-edition. Nothing is mass-produced. We believe in fashion that lasts emotionally and physically.

Design & Aesthetic

How would you describe your design philosophy or signature style?

We design for escapism. Goa Blues is where soft, sensual, statement silhouettes meet the quiet elegance of travel. Our pieces are poetic, lightweight, and versatile — made for holidays, weddings, or somewhere in between.

Who is the muse or ideal wearer of your designs?

She’s confident, discerning, and creative. She loves style, not trends. She values how things feel, not just how they look. She might be packing for Ibiza, Jaipur or Tuscany — and she wants to look and feel like herself in every place.

How do you blend tradition with contemporary fashion?

We take the essence of Indian craft — the hand, the care, the slowness — and give it an international language through cuts, prints, and styling. Our Indian Wear isn’t heavy, our Western Wear isn’t basic. It’s all Goa Blues.

Your India

What does Made in India or Born in India mean to you personally?

It means rooted creativity. It means craft, emotion, resilience, and luxury born from slow hands and thoughtful minds. It means building a brand that honours what India is capable of — but also where it’s going.

Are there specific regions, traditions, or experiences that influence your work?

We’re deeply influenced by Indian embroidery traditions, especially from Gujarat and Lucknow — but we often look outside India for styling cues. From Mediterranean tiles to desert tones, we’re blending cultural aesthetics in a way that feels uniquely ours.

Looking Ahead

What is your vision for the future of your brand?

To become the first brand women think of when they plan a trip — whether it’s a holiday or a destination wedding. We want to build not just clothing, but a lifestyle brand — a world of beauty, ease, emotion, and storytelling through fashion.

Any exciting launches, collaborations, or growth plans ahead?

Yes! We’re expanding our Indianwear line into bridal and couture-inspired styles, growing our menswear offerings, and planning pop-ups in London, Dubai, and beyond — each celebrating destination style with local flavour.
